Tavira
Tavira is described by some as the Venice of the Algarve, due to the waterways and the Gilao River, which divides the town into two. Tavira is located 40km to the east of Faro towards the Spanish border. Its relaxed feel and enchanting buildings with cobbled streets are a real attraction for visitors. Many fabulous fish restaurants are dotted around the town and boat trips down the river out to the renowned beaches are extremely popular with holiday makers. The stunning beaches at Tavira Island, Cabanas and Barril are among the best along the Algarve coast and are popular all year long.
The Tavira area also boasts some great golfing experiences, from the family friendly Benamor course to the stunning Quinta da Ria and Cima courses along the low cliffs. The unique Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course at Monte Rei has been voted the best golf course in Portugal on numerous occasions. Other great golfing challenges at Castro Marim and Quinta do Vale are also a short drive from town centre. The property market in Tavira has seen a big increase in the last decade and is a favourite with Northern Europeans.
